He remained with his parents until his marriage when he moved into a house just completed on the farm. With his brother, Horatio, he remained on the farm until his father's death when the home fell to him. He added to his inheritance until he owned about 300 acres. On this farm he raised grain and carried on a business far beyonnd the times.
