Began his career in tobacco just before the turn of the century. They were raising Havana Seed tobacco then. He had attended business college in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. OLIVER has been a very active business man and not only has, with his son, a large tobacco raising operation, but one of the country's finest herds of Holstein cattle. The Thralls should be counted among the pioneers in growing the Connecticut shade tobacco, which has proven the finest cigar wrapper
of today. OLIVER brought to the ancestral farm, a heard of the finest available dairy cattle. In 1965 the two large cow barns and great silos were models of perfection in the dairy industry.

It was a double wedding, as Oliver's cousin, Howard Thrall married Mamie's sister, Ella on the same day. In 1965 Oliver and mamie had travelled extensively and were still active.

He was a kindly man and well liked. He did not marry until he was 49, and he married a girl 18 years younger than himself. He lived on the home farm until he married and then took his bride to a home across the Farmington River where he farned the rest of his life.

She was a doer and her competitive spirit seems to have been transmitted to her son. She was not a big woman but a great worker and kept very active most of her 87 years.

Horace became a very successful man and one of the most influential citizens of the community. He served in numerous offices of respect and trust locally and represented the town in the State Legislature.
