The Salusbury family were at a low ebb. This disgrace brought about a separation between John and Ursula, which I believe is described in the highly allusive 'Love's Martyr' by Robert Chester, a retainer in the Salusbury household, and in Shakespeare's poem 'The Phoenix and the Turtle' which I believe was written during this period.
However, love triumphed over circumstances, and the two (the faithful turtle-dove, John Salusbury and Ursula, the colourful and high-born phoenix) were married to great ceremony (a masque being specially written for the occasion) at Lleweni, Denbigh, in December 1586.John married Ursula Stanley in Dec 1586 in Church of Corpus Christi, Tremeirchion, Flintshire, Wales.
