WIll H Thrall now 88 years old, is known as the "Mountain Historian" of Southern California. He has furnished information to the Los Angeles County Dept. of Recreation on the 1,587 square miles of mountain and forest in that county, of which he knows every foot. He has edited and published the "Little Trails" magazine, and wrote "Today's Hike" column for the Los Angeles Times. According to the County and Federal Forestry Departments, he has been instrumental in saving in fire supression costs alone, an average of $150,000 a year. He was the only one who knew the mountains and their people well enough and to get the cooperation of the thousands of people who used the mountains, to combat the fire danger. His one-man crusade to protect the mountains he loved, has won him acclaim, Will was President and leader of the San Antonio Hiking Club for 34 years. He led them on three hiking trips after he was 80 years old. His is an Honorary Life member of 2 other hiking clubs.
